Urea
Urea, or carbamide, is an organic molecule having the chemical formula CO(NH2)2. Urea is an essential fertilizer and feed additive, as well as a raw ingredient for the production of plastics and pharmaceuticals. It is a colourless, crystalline material that melts at 132.7°C (271°F) and disintegrates before boiling.
Application
Fertilizer accounts for 90% of all urea production. It is put to the soil to deliver nitrogen to the plants. Foliar fertiliser contains low-biuret (less than 0.03%) urea. It dissolves in water and is sprayed on plant leaves, particularly fruit and citrus. Other applications for urea include the plastics, resins, inks, medicines, and cosmetics industries, as well as textile, paper, paint, and metal finishes.
Types and Data Sheets
Urea fertilizers are available in prilled and granular forms.
